Manage Position Advertising for an Institution
Interfolio provides a public link to a list of all the published positions available at your institution. You can use this link to advertise the positions available on your institutional website or other places where you provide a list of available positions.
Note: Positions set as Private will not be made available via this link.
We also give users the option of activating an RSS Feed of their public positions.
What is an RSS Feed?
RSS, (Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary), is a standardized format for web feeds. Content distributors create a web feed to provide users with new or updated content, and users can subscribe to those web feeds by adding them to an aggregator, often known as an RSS reader. This allows a user to view content from multiple different sources using one application on their computer or mobile device.
Podcasts are a great example of how RSS works. A user may have an app on their phone that allows them to listen to several of their favorite podcasts. Each podcast is really an RSS feed that a user can subscribe to. When a new episode of a podcast is released, it is added to an RSS feed that makes it available to the app so that the user can download or listen to it.
News aggregators are another popular example of RSS. Many news websites use RSS feeds as a way to distribute new articles. You can use a news aggregator (aka RSS reader) application to subscribe to feeds from many different news sources. This allows you to view news articles from a variety of different sources in one location, rather than having to navigate to several different websites to see when a new article has been published.
How can my institution use an RSS feed to advertise their positions?
By activating an RSS feed for your public positions, you are providing potential applicants with a mechanism to easily and quickly see when a new position at your institution has been opened. An RSS feed allows your open positions to be advertised on job search services such as HERC, Chronicle, or other marketing/advertising vendors, making it easy for your institution to reach a wide audience of potential
Setting up position advertising settings
The instructions below describe how to set up the available options for advertising positions for an institution.
Select the Position Advertising tab
Navigate to Faculty Search Administration and select the Position Advertising tab.
Manage settings for the public positions list and RSS feed of positions
From here Admins can:
- Click Edit to make changes to the name of your public positions list
- Copy the URL of the list for distribution
- Access and Manage the EEO statment that appears on positions
- Activate an RSS feed of public positions at the institution that will contain details about open positions including title, unit, deadline , and descriptions.
Click the Activate Feed button to activate a data feed of public positions at your institution.
Copy RSS URL
Once the feed is activated the RSS URL will become available.
It may take up to 30 seconds for data to appear in the feed.
