Create and Assign User Titles
Administrator titles in Faculty Search (FS) represent institutional responsibilities such as Dean, Department Chair, or Provost. Titles can be assigned to administrators within the units they manage and used to determine who is responsible for completing Position and Selection Approval Steps. When an approval template assigns a step to an administrator based on unit and title, FS automatically directs the approval to the administrator who holds that title in the applicable unit. This approach allows the approval process to remain consistent when personnel change, provided the title is reassigned to the new administrator. This article explains how to create administrator titles, assign them to users within the appropriate units, and manage existing title assignments.
A title does not independently grant access or approval authority. The user must first hold the Administrator role for the applicable unit, and then the title must be referenced in an approval template before the user receives approval responsibilities through it.
Assign User Titles
- Navigate to the Users & Groups page and click the Edit (pencil) icon next to the desired administrative user.

A user must first be assigned the role of a unit administrator before a title can be assigned to that user. Titles are assigned to administrators when editing the user's permissions. A title can be assigned to the unit of the administrator's current role or a unit below.
