Use Guidelines to Prepare for Reviews

Guidelines allow institutions using Dossier to help faculty prepare for upcoming reviews by making packet instructions and requirements visible inside their Dossier account. When enabled by an administrator, these guidelines appear as a checklist that can be used to assemble a collection of materials in advance of the review. When the official review packet opens, users can transfer selected materials directly from their collection into their packet. This article go through how Dossier users can search for, preview, and save guidelines created by their institution.

Find and Use Guidelines

1. Search for and Save Guidelines

  1. Navigate to the Materials page in your Dossier account and click the Guidelines button in the upper right-hand corner.

If this button doesn’t appear, your institution has not enabled Guidelines.

  1. The Guidelines page will display where you can Search for Guidelines to use by institution and unit. Click the hyperlinked name of the guideline to preview it.
  2. Once you have found the guidelines you are looking for, click Save next to it to add it to your ‘Saved Guidelines.’

2. Create Collection of Materials Based on Guidelines

Now you can start creating a collection of materials to use later during your review cycle.

  1. Click Prepare for this Review next to the guidelines you just saved.
  2. Decide on a Collection Name on the ‘Prepare for Review’ window that appears. Click Continue when finished.

3. Add Materials to Collection

You will now see your new collection on the left, and the guideline checklist on the right.

  1. If available, a View Instructions hyperlink will appear under the ‘Guidelines’ window, containing additional instructions from the institution. You should always read through this information (if available) before populating your collection of materials.
  2. Click the Add Materials button to upload new or attach existing items from your Dossier.
  3. It is recommended to tag uploaded materials with the guideline requirement name to make filtering easier later.
