Set Up Guidelines to Help Your Users Prepare for Upcoming Reviews (for Administrators)
Guidelines allow institutions subscribing to Dossier to help faculty prepare for upcoming reviews by making packet instructions and requirements visible before the review begins. When Dossier Visibility is enabled for a template, the guidelines associated with that template become available for faculty to search, view, and save inside Dossier. Faculty can then use these guidelines as a checklist to assemble a collection of materials in advance of the review. When the review opens, they can transfer those materials directly into the official packet. This article explains how to enable guidelines through templates.
Why Enable Guidelines?

How Guidelines are Generated
Guidelines are automatically generated when Unit Administrators add candidate instructions, packet sections and documents, and form requirements to a template. Any update to these elements in a template will be reflected in the guidelines as long as visibility is enabled. However, guidelines only become visible to Dossier users once Administrators enable Dossier Visibility for that template.
Enable Dossier Visibility for a Template
- Navigate to the Templates page on the navigation menu and select Edit Template under the ‘Options’ dropdown next to the applicable template.
- Ensure the Template Summary page displays and click the Enable Dossier Visibility button under the ‘Dossier Visibility’ section.
- Click the Preview button to see how the guidelines will appear to Dossier users at the institution.
- Dossier Visibility can also be disabled from this screen.
