Naming and Organizing Packet Materials

Clear, descriptive file titles and well‑organized packet materials help reviewers navigate a candidate’s packet efficiently. In Interfolio Review, Promotion & Tenure (RPT), a file’s title appears as a bookmark in the document reader, so it is important that uploaded materials use meaningful names and follow recommended formatting. By default, the file name becomes the document title when uploaded.

Faculty can rename titles after upload, but Administrators cannot change titles for files uploaded by candidates.

Best Practices for Packet Organization

  • Use Guideline Requirements When Naming and Tagging Materials:
If your institution uses Guidelines, consider naming and tagging your materials according to the guideline requirements. This makes it easier to organize your files and quickly filter for specific documents when assembling collections or preparing your packet. Using guideline-aligned titles and tags reduces last‑minute confusion and helps ensure your materials match institutional expectations.
  • Use Bookmarks: Interfolio’s document reader automatically generates bookmarks from bolded headings in uploaded documents. These bookmarks help reviewers jump to different sections quickly.
    • Bookmarks cannot be edited in Interfolio. To change bookmarks, update the document in Adobe or another editor and re-upload. Avoid adding custom properties to bookmarks in Adobe, as these may not render correctly.
  • Reorder Packet Materials: In the Packet tab, candidates can drag and reorder materials within each section. Reordering helps group related documents together and improves reviewer navigation. Requirements marked as locked cannot be rearranged.
  • Use “Print to PDF” for Reliable Bookmark Structure: Using Adobe Print to PDF preserves existing headings and ensures that all bookmarks are recognized and displayed correctly in Interfolio’s reader.

Rename Packet Materials After Upload

  1. Navigate to Your Packets and select the packet Name under the Active Packets section.
  2. If the section is unlocked, you will be able to change the title by clicking the Edit button in the desired section and then the Edit link next to the applicable document.

If the section is locked, you will need to reach out to the institution to make any changes.

  3. The Edit Document window will display where you can change the Document Title or Replace the document altogether.

Documents can also be renamed on the Materials page within your Dossier account.

FAQ

How do I remove bookmarks or turn off this feature?

The bookmarks cannot be turned off within the Interfolio document reader, however, you can remove or edit the bookmarks within Adobe by navigating to the bookmark panel, selecting the bookmark (or Ctrl + A to select all bookmarks) and selecting delete.

How can I organize my materials in Dossier?

Dossier does not have the bookmark feature, so it is recommended to create collections to gather all materials in one location, similar to a folder.
