How to Request LCME Accreditation Reporting (LCME Table 4.2-1)

Interfolio has updated our existing medical school accreditation report in Faculty Activity Reporting (FAR, Faculty180) to support the published 2023-2024 standards for LCME Table 4.2-1 (Scholarly Productivity). This reporting-as-a-service method of LCME report creation is only an interim step while building, integrating, and rolling out the next generation of Interfolio accreditation reports from within the FAR module. The article below explains these changes in more detail.

For now, Interfolio partners need to make a request to generate this report through our services team.

About LCME Accreditation Reporting

What is LCME accreditation reporting?

  • The Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) is recognized as the accrediting authority for medical education programs leading to the M.D. degree in U.S. and Canada.
  • LCME accreditation is a voluntary, peer-reviewed process that determines whether a medical education program meets established standards that are updated annually.
  • To gain and maintain accreditation medical education programs typically undergo a self-study process and a full survey visit every eight years. Data in support of accreditation is supplied in response to LCME's Data Collection Instrument (LCME DCI) surveys.
  • As part of this survey process, medical programs must provide data on the scholarly productivity of their faculty using Table 4.2-1 of the LCME DCI.

For more information on LCME reporting, check out the LCME website, the collection of documents on the LCME Standards, Publications, & Notification Forms page, and the organization's LCME FAQs.

How does Interfolio FAR support LCME reporting?

  • FAR provides reporting on scholarly productivity that helps satisfy the reporting requirements for LCME accreditation.
  • We have updated our medical school accreditation report to include the 2023-2024 standards for LCME Table 4.2-1.
  • Table 4.2-1. pulls information about scholarly productivity including articles in peer-reviewed journals, published books and book chapters, faculty co-investigators or primary investigators on extramural grants, and other peer-reviewed scholarship (as defined by the institution).

Request LCME Accreditation Reporting

Reports on LCME Table 4.2-1 are pulled via a request to our services team. We have added a link to request the reports beside the corresponding report on the Reports page. Administrators with appropriate access simply click the link to reach out to their account manager who will generate the report on request.

1. Assign Faculty Classifications

Administrators must assign faculty to our new classifications (or faculty can assign themselves); the Basic Science classification, or the Clinical classification.

Please do not add any other or additional classifications beyond the Basic Science or Clinical classifications. Additional options are not supported by our data model and will cause the reports to be incorrect. To ensure correct reporting, users should not add new or additional statuses or add any values to the existing LCME classifications.

2. Complete pre-work and data verification

Add faculty classification and activity information and verify that all relevant data is in the system and has been properly audited by the appropriate individuals at the institution. Please make sure faculty have properly set their activity classifications.

Please note, Table 4.2-1 pulls information about scholarly productivity including faculty co-investigators or primary investigators on extramural grants, and other peer-reviewed scholarship (as defined by the institution).

When answering Yes on the peer-reviewed activity classification, and also when answering Yes for Grants, faculty members will need to define their role as either co-investigator or Principle Investigator and denote that the grant is external on that activity classification. Those activity classifications will need to be linked to those activity types if they are not already.

3. Submit a ticket and submit the completed report

  1. Submit a ticket to us requesting a report. We will:
    • Confirm that we received it
    • Prepare the report and send it to you
    • If needed, we can schedule a consultation meeting with you to go over the report.
    • If any modifications are needed, we will work with you on necessary iterations of the report.
    • Hand over the report to you when ready for submission
  2. Submit the completed report to LCME as normal during your accreditation review.
